From coast to coast Earth Day provides opportunities to see important films about the issues and solutions our world must face, especially in the current political climate. The SF Green Film Festival has been a force in this movement, and several new festivals are taking place in Los Angeles and Philadelphia. EarthxFilm has expanded its film offerings and integrated it with the largest Earth Day celebration, Earth Day Texas.

After Labor Day it's back to work - and there are many exciting and powerful new films to support the cause! Environmental films are getting a big push before the upcoming COP21 Climate Talks in Paris with premieres of Time to Choose  and This Changes Everything, plus the theatrical release of How to Change the World and Racing Extinction

Its a great summer with several hot new releases featuring the works of world renown writers Paulo Colheo and Kahlil Gibran. And looks like the heat will continue with powerful films that are funding now.

World Premier - Salam Neighbor had its World Premiere at AFI Docs in honor of World Refugee Day. Chris and Zach who showed us what it was like to live on $1/day in the Award winning film Living on One, are the first filmmakers ever allowed by the United Nations to be given a tent and registered inside a refugee camp, are able to get a never before seen look into the world’s most pressing crisis.

Earth Day’s 45th anniversary could be the most exciting year in environmental history. With several films launching for Earth Day its easy for everyone to do their part by just staying home and watching a movie as the all are available to stream online.

SIMA began as the first documentary and educational impact media competition + awards honoring members of both the independent film and global humanitarian industries. We set out to propel and elevate global social-impact storytelling that inspires crucial perspectives and demonstrates unique potential to enlighten, transform, and positively impact our contemporary world. Now in our third year, SIMA has grown to become an international film program + collection, curating and distributing the best impact cinema from around the globe. Through the annual SIMA AWARDS and year-round FILM PROGRAMS, we provide a catalyst for these important works, and serve as a film reserve for screening partners worldwide.

The AwareGuide, the guide to life changing media, announced the results of the Top Transformational Films of 2013. The top films were selected as Viewer’s Choice and Editor’s Choice from the 33 films that were included in the voting, which included 5 films that were on this year’s Academy Award shortlist. Awards were also selected by the Editors in the categories of Impact, Inspiration, Youth, and Solutions.

“A Transformational film” according to AwareGuide founder and CEO, Gary Tomchuk, “seeks to inspire the movement of society towards ideals, values and practices that create a better world for everyone. They focus on solutions for subjects such as: Consciousness, Environment, Health, and Social Issues.”

The Viewer’s Choice Award winners were selected by over 15,000 people from more than 50 countries that voted.The voting was very competitive with the top films changing the lead several times.With the close voting and some technical challenges both Take Back Your Power and The Ghosts in Our Machine have been awarded the Viewer’s Choice Award.
